This powerful supplement has been widely used for immuno-enhancing effects and fat loss. The major components of interest in green tea extract are the polyphenols/Catechines (including EGCG--epigallocatechin gallate which seems to provide the strongest antioxidant effects). Most of its research is actually focused on its cancer-protective effects. Some research suggests that this potent extract has greater anti-oxidant protection than Vitamin C and E. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in Dec. 1999 showed that green tea extract actually increased 24 hour energy expenditure and fat oxidation in humans.
